Whether you have been married one year or thirty years, flowers are a great way to celebrate your anniversary. What many people don’t know is that there are specific flowers to celebrate each year that you have been married! The different flowers hold symbolism and significance that represent each year of marriage. When ordering your wedding anniversary flowers, be sure to mention to your local florist what year you are celebrating!
Anniversary flowers started as early as the Holy Roman Empire with German couples giving anniversary gifts for specific years. This continued into the Victorian ages as people were more commonly getting married for love (contrary to previous reasons in the past) and gifts/flowers were commonly given to show their continued love and focus on their marriage. As we have said many times, different flowers and colors of flowers all have specific symbolism and meanings. For anniversaries, the symbolism is just flower specific. If you really want to dig into it before purchasing, you can look up the color meanings for the specific flower as well!
An anniversary is a time to remember the vows you made and the love that brought you together. It’s a common tradition to gift flowers on your anniversary, so we wanted to share with you the official anniversary flowers for each year. For the first 15 anniversaries there are flowers to celebrate and then from there it just is on the landmark years. Of course, flowers are appreciated on those other years as well!
